When people leave the game for a certain amount of time it counts as a forfeit. He wants to be shown the time for this. Not when the person runs of of time but when they leave the game.

a countdown can also be shown before tournament games since when playing a tournament game you have a limited amount of time to make your first move; but there's no way to see how much is left.
