I'm seeking some advice on how to get used to a chess variant such as three-check. My friend introduced it to me OTB and I found it lots of fun, however I can't seem to grasp my mind on strategy or tactics. Anyone have any advice? Thanks :-)
The best advice I can give is don't play overly defensively to avoid getting checked. Play as you would normal chess, develop your pieces, castle your king etc. Be mindful however, when pushing pawns, of weakening diagonals that lead to your king.

What a top player told me: Attack as white, defend as black. Black can only win if white blunders, but if you defend properly it becomes a long and normal game. With white your development advantage is huge.
