Can lichess do a better job when someone abandones a game.

This issue is discussed in the forum quite often, which shows that it is in fact a problem for many players. It is just annoying having to wait until the time runs down just because a player didn't resign properly.

I somewhat agree with @ricardo-sf that with certain heuristics lichess should be able to do a better job on this issue, but as a side note, maybe it could also do a better job supporting players to identify such people:
Currently there is only the possibility to notify the moderators in a rather unspecific way about players that are cheating or insulting others.
Why not add the possiblity to notify that a player left the game without resigning? After a certain amount of such notifications the player could be blocked automatically. I'm rather sure a human should be able to understand if an opponent did it on purpose (for example after losing an important piece) or it was just a disconnect.
@shadow303 the issue has been discussed since the age of time fot that matter, not just in this forum, but it's just part of internet chess.

I think the system already in place here is rather reasonable, balancing the "claim victory" timeout, the new warning and the soft-ban notifications and such... the more automation you add to that, the more you run the risk of pushing the issue to the complete opposite, false positives that would be even more infuriating to the players.

As for a system based on players reporting opponents, as you are suggesting?... well, just no... i mean, again this is the internet and i don't think it needs to be explained how that would be an abuser paradise
I don't agree that the "claim victory" feature is doing a reasonable job, it shows up only after several minutes (if it does, which isn't always the case). Of course such things are subjective, however the number of complains here in the forum already shows that there are many players that aren't happy with it.
(Also because that alert that was added recently seems rather buggy.)

While I agree that there can also be an "over-automation" regarding this issue, I don't see how a better reporting feature could be an abuser paradise. Of course you can also notify someone to the moderators now without reason or by writing he lets games run out while it's not true, but if many players notify the same player for letting games run out, there is most probably a reason for it. In addition there are certainly possiblities to cross check that with the data/games (heuristics approach that some here in the thread already metioned).
I'm with TheTirelessQuoter on that one.
Playing a lot on the train, my internet connection does have hiccups from time to time and a more automated approach would identify me as someone who has left a game, whilst I usually just have time-outs for a minute or so and will continue playing whenever I start a game.
I think the system in place is doing a good, balanced job.
